Think about how traumatic it would be if, out of the blue, you were told that you have to move away from the space that you’ve made your own, an area in which you feel comfortable, indeed the only space you’ve ever known. It would suck, right! Well, spare a thought for your child when you decide to move him or her out of their room and into a new bedroom. You may have your reasons - usually there’s another child on the way - but that doesn’t make it any easier for them! So go easy. Below, we take a look at a few useful tips for transitioning your child to a new room.

Get Them Used to The Room
Don’t tell them the news and then move them in all on the same day. Instead, slowly get them used to to the room where there’ll be sleeping in the future by spending some time in there. It’s likely to be empty at the moment, so set it up as a play space, and gradually make it more like a bedroom over time. In no time, there’ll be looking forward to spending more time in the room they’ve come to enjoy!
Involved in the Process
Instead of pushing something new on them, why not get them involved in the process of putting together their new room? You can ask them to browse the toddler bed collection at Cuckooland with you and see which is their favourite. You can also talk about the colour of the walls, and ask for any other suggestions about what they’d like to have. Who knows, when they think about the room they’ll be sleeping in when they move, they might just want to move in sooner than necessary!
Make It More Fun
No-one wants to move to a place that is inferior to what they had before. So make sure your toddler has no reason to look back with envy at the room they had before their little brother or sister came along. Now that they’re older, they’re able to appreciate better all the subtle fun additions that can make a child’s room awesome. If they’ve got a place to play, fun furniture, and so on, there’ll be more than happy to make the move!
Get Creative
What’s life without a bit of magic? Sure, we may grow out of it somewhat when we’re older, but when we’re young, it’s about as good as life gets! As such, make sure the room is sprinkled with magic throughout. You can add cool lamps that spray stars on the wall, have a creative board, and all-around make it a fun and enchanting place to be.
Build the Excitement
Finally, don’t forget that kids will be excited if you are! Build the excitement, plan to host a “moving in party,” and make sure your child is fully aware of just how awesome their new digs are. By the time the move comes, they’ll be positively itching to get inside!
